  Cumbrian Dialect

Cumbria has been the home to many peoples, and most have left their mark on the local languages and dialects. Of course, a lot of the lingo comes from Old English, but the Romans, the Picts and the Celts, along with the Vikings, have all had an influence on the words you may hear in this beautiful corner of England.

To help you in your prospective travels in the Lake District we have compiled a phrase book and dictionary of Lakeland lingo. If you would like to contribute to these pages please click here. more
