Derwentwater

There are seven sizeable islands on the lake with the three major islands Derwent Island (formerly Vicar's Island), St.Herbert's Island and Otters Bield sharing interesting history between them.

Derwent Island gained its former name from its ownership by Fountains Abbey of Yorkshire. More recently miners lived on the island. Derwent Island looks out onto Causey Pike and the Derwent fells in the distance.more
