Borrowdale

It is rumoured that in ancient times inhabitants of the valley attempted to build a wall across it to keep the cuckoo - and hence spring - in Borrowdale forever. It is not known why this course of action was taken but the enchanting beauty of the region in that season would have been reason enough.
