Ireby
Ireby (and High Ireby) sits to the east of Cockermouth
at the confluence of four minor roads under the distant gaze of the
peaks of Knott and Great Calva. To the west of the River Ellen this
village offers the visitor to the Lake District one of the most picturesque
settings for a holiday.
Once a market town, Ireby's geographical setting made it an ideal
meeting place historically for local horse and sheep farmers and breeders
to congregate.
