Maryport
Maryport, situated to the north of Workington
and to the south-east of Carlisle, was once a thriving port but today
is a quiet working town on the coast of northern Cumbria.
Situated in the vicinity of the ruined Roman fort of Alauna, Maryport
was originally the village of Ellenport until the 18th century when
the present town centre was commissioned by Humphrey Senhouse and
re-named after his wife Mary.
