West
Cumbria
Visitors to the Lake District rarely venture furtherm west than Keswick
during their holiday to the area but for those that do Western Cumbria
offers much. From the history of Cockermouth,
the birthplace of William Wordsworth, to the south of the area where
visitors can ride the wonderful Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway,
the western lakes and coast is an undiscovered gem. On the west coast
itself the former working towns of Whitehaven,
Workington
and Maryport
provide strong links to the county's industrial heyday depicted by some
excellent museums. |
