  Transport - Ferries

The many lakes and tarns in Cumbria have long been exploited for transport. Coniston Water was used in Roman times to ferry goods and people around the area and at Lake Windermere there is evidence of a centuries old ferry crossing at the southern end of the lake.

Today it is mostly tourists that travel on the lakes to marvel at Cumbria's stunning scenery from the many transport companies operating on the Cumbrian waterways.
